The Salthill Cycleway pilot scheme is “a victory for everyone in the city”, but it has to be made work, and become the start of a new approach to transport in the city, one that will reduce, not increase, the city’s already chronic traffic congestion.

A feasibility study, identifying a suitable route for the Silverstrand to city centre walkway/cycleway, has been commissioned by the Galway City Council.

Public consultation on five potential route corridor options for the new Athlone to Galway Cycleway remains open and the project team is encouraging the public and interested parties to view the proposals and make their submissions over the coming weeks.

The Athlone to Galway cycleway is to receive a funding boost of approximately €300,000, according to Fine Gael Senator for Roscommon-Galway Aisling Dolan, with the team developing the cycleway construction being located adjacent to the new library on Society Street, Ballinasloe.
